Bánya Spring
In the Bolhás area, on the western side of the Subanya Valley, at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, there is the Bánya Spring, which has a constant flow rate (2-2.5 l/min) and is special in that calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is released from the water at the spring outlet. This phenomenon is not uncommon in our karstic mountains, but it is unique in the volcanic Tokaj Mountains. The limestone outcrops, like the calcite occurrences, indicate near-surface limestone ruins, thus providing important information for researchers on the deep structure of the area. It is a geological value of outstanding importance. Near the spring is a former gold-digging deposit, which was established in the middle of the century. Hence the name of the spring. The abandoned mine road was blocked for safety reasons.
