King Matthias’ Well
Friday, October 1, 2021
King Matthias’ well, which the king actually visited in his lifetime, is a good half-hour walk away. The king must have really liked it here, as it was while hunting that he met his lover, Ilonka Szép, whose tomb is located next to the well. The spring, which provides ice-cold water even today, and the grave of Ilonka Szép were built in 1932 by Bálint Tóth, a road commissioner from Gönc. The rain shelters, the grill areas, resting benches and bridges over the stream offer hikers a truly unforgettable experience.
