Testimonial:
The route is recommended for experienced cyclists who are not afraid of steep, single-track trails. It's a real mountain bike route. We rarely encounter asphalt, but we do encounter beautiful dirt roads and single-track paths winding in the forests.
Route:
Leaving the Budapest-Balaton bicycle path and we leave Biatorbágy with the viaduct behind us. In a few minutes, we'll be out of town, riding in a beautiful forest on a dirt road through Iharos. To the left, we turn to the red tourist sign, which can be a challenge for less experienced mountain bikers, as the trail is narrow and steep. However, after the technical phase, we are soon up at the Szily Chapel. Continuing from here, the red signal starts with a slope and then an increasingly steep climb starts, the last 50 meters of which may force most cyclists to land and push. In exchange for the effort, only a few resort streets have to be crossed to the most beautiful point of the tour, the Nyakas-kő (Neckstone). Here, however, be careful: the route sometimes runs very close to the cliff and steep ravine. We would land anyway because of the sight, but due to the difficulty of pedestrian tourists and the terrain, it is recommended to push the bike for this short section. Backwards from Nyakas-kő, we pass through stony forest roads in the area of the former air defense base, where it is also worth looking around. Then comes a short section of a beautiful forested road, through which we drift down to the main road, then a few hundred meters to Lake Peca. The road leads to the shore of the lake, which leaves the houses and continues on a flat gravel path. You can relax by the lake or at the next cozy Békás-forrás (Frog spring). We continue along riding-halls till the Budapest-Balaton bicycle path. If you want more adventures and more views, you can climb Bolha-hegy (Flea Mountain) to the left. At the end of our journey, we have to cross the very busy road leading to Etyek, be careful! Turning to the right, we can continue on the Budapest-Balaton cycle path towards Biatorbágy and Etyek to the left.
Embarkation point: Biatorbágy viaduct, Budapest-Balaton cycle path
To whom do we recommend: for those who want to get to know the Nyakas-kő (Neck stone) in a more difficult, technical terrain and are not afraid of a little push
How to get out: the railway station of Biatorbágy is not far from the route
