Testimonial: from the Eurovelo 6 route between Szentendre and Budapest, we have more options to explore the surrounding countryside by bicycle. On this MTB tour recommended for advanced cyclists, we reach the plateau above Pomáz – the peak of our tour – the Árpád lookout tower, on the bicycle route, on public road and unmarked terrain roads. It is recommended to use your own GPS device or phone to track the route.
Route: we leave the Eurovelo route at the boundary of Szentendre, where our field adventure starts. We recommend to reach the starting point by bicycle from Szentendre or Budapest.
From the direction of Budapest, we take the bicycle route to Pomáz, and then the low-traffic streets towards the lookout tower. We have to work for this wonderful view: after overcoming the short and steep stretch of road, we reach the plateau, from where the field adventure starts. We soon arrive at the spectacular Árpád lookout tower, from where we can see Mesélő-hegy (Storyteller Mountain) and Szentendre from a special angle.
We start back from the lookout tower on rarely-visited, bumpy dirt roads on a short detour. This short section is recommended by trekking or MTB bike. In the case of road bicycles, it is recommended to turn towards Víztorony street.
Towards the south, you can admire the panorama of the Kevély hills and the orchards in the valley. From the plateau, our route leads to the boundary of Budakalász on a partly asphalted and partly unpaved road. In the inner area of the settlement, our route first slopes on low-traffic roads, then we cross the busy Pomázi road and the HÉV to the bicycle route along the Majdán and later the Barát stream. From here, you can ride on flat terrain to Omszki-tó (Lake Omski), where you can have a picnic or do some wakeboarding. Crossing Route 11 on the bicycle route, we reach the entrance of Lupa-tó (Lake Lupa), where several buffets and beaches await us. The adult daily ticket is HUF 3,900, however, after 4:00 p.m. we can get to the sandy beach at a discounted price. From here it is only a few hundred meters and we can return to the EV6 bicycle route, where we can continue towards Budapest or Szentendre, the starting point.
