Testimonial: from the Eurovelo 6 route between Szentendre and Budapest, we have more options to explore the surrounding countryside by bicycle. On this difficult MTB tour you can reach the Czibulka János Kőhegyi Refuge House by bicycle, on public road and hiking path. The trail is not marked, tracking requires your own GPS device/phone tracking.

Route: Our MTB tour at Kő-hegy starts from the Eurovelo trail, at the border of Szentendre. We recommend to reach the starting point by bicycle from Szentendre or Budapest.

From there to the border of Szentendre, the tour continues on a low-traffic public road. Leaving the Püspökmajor part of the town, climbing to the 340 m high Kő-hegy starts on a high quality, wide gravel road.

On the 5-kilometer-field climb, we collect 250 meters of elevation. The terrain is MTB, but not technically, except for some sections of a uniform scattered road. In the tourist house it is almost compulsory to consume a well-deserved refreshment – besides the view and the visit of the Petőfi memorial plate.

Going up will not be fast, but go down the steep road very carefully, and watch out for tourists who also use the road! We can return to the Budapest-Szentendre cycle path towards Pomáz, but continuing our journey to Szentendre is a good choice. At junction six, on the edge of a field, turn left and turn onto the busy Szentlászló Road. There is no need to go much further, because following the yellow cycling signal we will soon find ourselves in the cozy little streets along the Bükkös stream. The yellow sign quickly becomes green, and then the streets become narrower walkways. Keep an eye out for pedestrians. Crossing under Route 11, we find ourselves downtown. From here, our journey on the EV6 returns to the starting point, but first it is worth making a detour to the restaurants on the Szentendre Corso.

Embarkation point: Budapest-Szentendre bicycle path (EV6), bridge over Dera stream at the border of Szentendre

To whom do we recommend: Terrain for advanced cyclists

How to get out: HÉV station in Pomáz or Szentendre
