Tour description:

This light cycle tour starts at the shore of Fertő until the Austrian border. We start at the cyclist rest stop of Fertőhomok, a pleasant settlement, after viewing the country house just opposite. After a walk in the cozy park, we mount the bike, leave the Fertő basin and head to the forests of the Sopron Mountains. After Pinnye, we reach Nagylózs village, where we can admire the view from the lookout tower at the outskirts of the village. Our next stop is Sopronkövesd. Passing by Sopronhorpács, we go to Zsira village, where a beautiful castle awaits. Former Rimanóczy Castle or Gyülevizy-Pejacsevich Castle. A baroque monument, it is now a retirement home managed by the municipality of the capital. Its park is gated. At the cyclist border crossing, a ride of only 400 meters takes us to Austria to enjoy the services of the famous Sonnentherme at Locsmánd.

Fertőhomok - Country House

The farmhouse was rebuilt after the 1930 fire and showcases the past and the traditions of this particular culture. In the first room and kitchen, you can see the interior of the 1930’s. The second room displays local historical documents and varying seasonal exhibitions. The former stable has become an exhibition site of contemporary artists, where three or four artists are introduced each year. The courtyard is enclosed by the pens and the barn, where visitors meet agricultural equipment and tools.

Lake Fertő:

It is the third largest standing water in Central Europe, about 20 thousand years old, and the westernmost of the Asian steppe lakes in Europe. Most of its territory belong to Austria and the rest to Hungary. The Fertő area and the lake itself are part of the world's heritage. The Hungarian shore is Fertő–Hanság National Park, the Austrian is Neusiedler See – Seewinkel National Park. In Central Europe, it is the second most easily heated lake after Lake Balaton. Its temperature often reaches 30°C in the summer.

Agg Mountain and Kotecsi National Park:

The vine mountain, which locals just call Agg Mountain and the wines produced were first mentioned in historical sources at the beginning of the 17th century. A little chapel built in the first half of the 18th century is also on the mountain. The ancient oak trees in the park forest and the black pine trees planted in memory of the 13 martyrs of Arad are a must see. In early spring, the blossoming flowers await tourists on the signposted tour routes. The last remains of the old narrow-track horsecar, Cifra Bridge is here. A reconstructed section of the Iron Curtain is nearby. The name of the park forest was given after the former hunting lodge of the Széchényi manor: the word ‘cottage’ was magyarized.
